Upon graduation from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, a very young Gaurav Gupta was acclaimed as the ‘Future of Couture’ by Altaroma Altamoda. His experiences of working with Hussein Chalayan, of being the youngest jury member at Mittelmoda, and receiving various awards for his marked debut in Japan, Russia and India, contributed towards defining his design spectrum.
His designs are inspired by elements of magic realism, surrealism and fantasy. The designer’s intricate detailing sets the garments apart. The drapes, structure and embroideries on the Gaurav Gupta gowns are all conceptualized to flatter a woman’s body. His sculpture-like garments have a sense of infinity and rhythm. The designer believes in merging indigenous Indian construction and embellishing techniques with his idea of the future- a concept visible in the Gaurav Gupta saree gown.
Gaurav Gupta uses his prodigious skill in creating the most futuristic, cutting-edge designs in metallic hues. His ensembles portray a chic elegance with elements of grandiose. The designer understands the lines and the motion of fabric like the back of his hand. Embroideries in three dimensions, volume play and extempore draping have created a signature look that is difficult to find the world over.
